Famous artist Shepard Fairey may end up serving some jail time over his famous Obama “Hope” poster. When questioned about the infringement of the photo used to create the poster, he lied to investigators and destroyed some evidence. That’s a no-no. Ask ex-con Martha Stewart, who didn’t go to jail for insider trading, but for lying to investigators. He’ll be sentenced July 19th and the prosecutor wants jail time. Following the Cariou vs Prince case, these are good times for photographers trying to keep appropriation artists from stealing our work.
